Travel Guide: Cheltenham Races
Race week is one of the busiest and most exciting times in Cheltenham – but with that comes traffic, crowds, and a pace of life that rewards a little forward planning. Here are our top tips to make your journey to No.131 (and on to the Racecourse) as smooth as possible.
Getting Into Cheltenham
- Set off early – traffic builds quickly on race days, especially on routes into the town centre. Allow yourself plenty of time so you can relax and enjoy your arrival.
- Check-in at 3pm – but don’t worry if you arrive before then. Our team will happily look after your bags so you can head straight out to soak up the atmosphere.
- Travelling via London Road? – make a pitstop at Dunkertons Park. It’s the perfect place to stretch your legs, enjoy street food and coffee, and browse the Holland Cooper boutique – the ultimate destination for a race day outfit.
- Parking – Park on Montpellier Street behind the hotel, then head straight to reception who will be able to sort a parking permit for you. If you’ve booked directly with us this will be free of charge, if you’ve booked via a third party this will be charged at £10 a day.
From No.131 to the Racecourse
- By Car – allow extra travel time whether you’re driving or taking a taxi. Our reception team can book a taxi on your behalf – just let them know. No.131 is near the racecourse (less than 2 miles) but be prepared for slow traffic on the day.
- Walking – the simplest route is a straight line down towards Pittville Park. From there, just follow the signs – you’ll be swept along with fellow racegoers heading in the same direction. The walk is approximately 40 minutes.
- By bus – regular, dedicated services run straight to the Racecourse during the Festival. The best place to catch one is on the High Street, just down from The Promenade.
Our Final Tip
Plan ahead, travel early, and let No.131 be your base. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be in the heart of the action, with everything you need for an unforgettable Cheltenham racing experience right on your doorstep.
